MINE DISASTER.
TWENTY MEN BURIED. * SIX BODIES RECOVERED. LITTLE HOPE FOR THE OTHERS. .By Telagraph.—Press Assn.— Copyright. Received March 10, 11.10 p.m. Sydney, March 10. After blasting operations at Hoskins’ mine, Cadia, Orange district, a mass of ironstone collapsed, burying twenty men. Following the usual custom, the men working on the ore fired several shots in an open face on the surface before the dinner interval. Soon after resuming the fall occurred, the men, without warning, being buried under a mass of ironstone. Harrowing scenes were witnessed, families crowding around the mine and watching the rescue work, which is proceeding with feverish haste. So far six bodies have been recovered. There is little hope that any will be dug out alive. The police report states that the disaster is due to a premature explosion.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
