PRESS TELEGRAMS.
THE TARIFF MODIFIED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. • The Postmaster-General lias agreed to certain modifications of the tariff for Press messages recently announced, in order to prevent the charge for short messages, which are counted separately, exceeding the public rate. One shilling will be charged for the first 50 words and 1/6 for 51 to 100, thereafter 1/6 per 100 op fraction thereof. Messages for morning papers from offices not re-opening after 5 p.m., now limited to 300 words, will be increased to 600. With regard to the request for prompt despatch of Press telegrams between 1 and 3 p.m. the Minister says they are already given precedence between those hours and specific instances of delay should be brought under the Department’s notice. In other respects the tariff remains ae already announced. The above alterations will come
