REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the northern committee of the Taranaki Referees' Association was held in the Soldiers' Club last night, when Mr! G. Hopkins presided over v an attendance of about a dozen members. Apologies were received from Messrs. F. Spurdie (Inglewood), Wilson (Stratford), and T. Petty. Mr. D. George (Waitara) wrote resigning from the association.—Accepted. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The chairman, in his report, congratulated members on the wkole-hearted manner in which the/ had maintained their interest in the welfare and work of the association; for the manner in which they had attended the meetings; and for the qjod feeling which always prevailed wtile points of interest were being discussed. It was very gratifying to know that the work of the association was appreciated by those who came directly under its control; as expressed by various clubs, by the Taranaki Rugby Union, and the interprovinciul teams that visited the province, and he expressed the hope that this would be an inducement to every member to give t’is very best in the coming season, as in the past. During the season 23 meetings had been held, with an average attendance of 6%, which was very good, considering that about half the members reside outside the town. Six new members joined and two resigned, leaving an active list of about 20. Over 173 appointments were made, and with very few exceptions all were filled, thanks to the generosity of members taking two games in one day. He urged every one to use his best endeavours to induce others to join the association. He referred to tte success of their efforts in obtaining representation on the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union, which had helped to the smooth working. Reference was made to the excellent work done by the secretary (Mr. F. Roberts) and to the successful dinner held at the conclusion of last season, when the opportunity was taken of thanking all persons wto had assisted the committee in the past. In conclusion, he thanked members of the executive, Mr. F. Julian for attending outside meetings, Mr. W. *Roch for representing them on the Taranaki Rugby Union, Mr. F. Storker, the masters of the New Plymouth High School, and the Press. During the coming season there were likely to be drastic alterations in the arrangements for the game, and it behove’d them to see that their interests were well protected, and to use their best endeavors to advance any point which would make the game more I popular.

The balance-sheet showed* that receipts had amounted tc £22 7s, the principal items being donations £2 Us, subscriptions £2 15s, Taranaki Rugby Union £5 15s, receipts for dinner £9 15s. The expenditure amounted to £lB 10s 6d, tie principal items being expenditure on dinner £lO 10s 3d, delegates' and executive meeting expenses £3 7s, sta-i tionery and sundries £3 7s 9d. O'Shea, E. Whittle, F. Whittle, McPherson, Fairweather, J. Garcia, J. Locke; chairman of committee, Mr. G. Hqpkins (re-ielectecl) ; secretary, Air. F. Roberts (re-elected) ; executive; Mr. B. Petty, with tte chairman and secretary; representatives on central executive, Messrs. F. Julian and W. Roeh; delegate to the Taranaki Rugby Union, Mr. G. Hopkins; examination board, Messrs. G. Hopkins, T. Petty, J. O’Shea, and the remaining members present. Monday was fixed as the evening for the weekly meetings. In the event of it being the northern committee’s turn to appoint a delegate, Mr. W. Koch was appointed to represent the association at a conference of the New Zealand Referees’ Association. Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring members of the executive and the Press, and tte secretary was voted an honorarium of £2 2s as a small mark of appreciation.
