WAITARA.
(Froid Our Own Correspondent.) March 7. Four persons guessed correctly in the pea guessing competition held in connection with the sports last Thursday. Mrs. Goddard and Messrs. W. Spurdie, G. Jupp and E. Procter happening on the right number (106). As the prize is a dinner set, it is presumed it will be sold and the proceeds divided. The death occurred in Wellington on Friday morning of Mr. Harry Johnson, who has been suffering for some time from a serious illness. Mr. Johnson was a mutton butcher at the works and was well liked, and sympathy goes out to the family for the loss they have sustained. J Mr. Henry Soffe was married to Miss Waite, of Urenui, last Wednesday. Mr. L. B. Grimstone, late manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Waitara, and later of Eltham, has taken up residence in Wanganui. Mr. Jas. B. Carr, of Okau, who has been an inmate of the New Plymouth hospital with a poisoned hand, is sufficiently well to return home. The dance held after the sports meeting last Thursday was crowded, despite the intense heat.* The orchestra, comprising Mesdames Wiseman,. Locke, Messrs. Wells, Whittington, S. George and T. Hughes, made things very enjoyable. «fl?his combination in coming in for some high praise. Mr. Gribbon, who has been in business here for the last twelve years as a tobacconist and fancy goods dealer, has sold out to Mr. L. J. Rattenbury, ' late of Tongaporutu. Mr. Gribbon intend? going to England with his wife and family, and will probably be away twelve months.
