ST. MARY’S HOMES.
There is hardly any institution of a charitable or philanthropic character in New Zealand that deserves more public recognition and support than* St. Maly s Homes, Otahuhu. The homes (or rather the home, for it is a single institution) is doing a most important and valuable work on the outskirts of the largest city in the Dominion, with little self advertisement, with but a tiny pittance of encouragement from the State, but with a thoroughness and efficiemfr that is the common knowledge of all who are acquainted with it. . St. Mary’s Homes befriend and rescue n large number of young women every year, and set them on their feet once more; here they are taught the privileges and responsibilities of motherhood, the sacredness of the marriage bond, the principles of happy home life, the care of young,, children. They are not pamperized- they contribute substantially to the home which ifelps them, and which they love. It is the largest institution of its kind, by far, in New Zealand. 1. is controlled by the Anglican Church, but its doors are wide open to all who need its help. Its work is increasing; its buildings are being extended; and. the high cost of living has made its maintenance expenses enormously high. The home builds up the fabric of national character, quietly and efficiently; it deserves all the support that the public can give it. It is elsewhere announced that AlibS Alice Wilson, organising secretary, is to give an address on the work of the home in St. Mary’s ris . b this evening at 7.30 p.m. All adults will be cordially welcome.
