The refusal of tl:e Australians to arrange a match with Derbyshire was described at die Derbyshire Club's annual meeting as "scurvey treatment." It was stated that after the club had guaranteed the £2OO demanded the Australians still refused, pointing out that the receipts at the Derby match in 191? were only 8, which the club contends was due to wet weather.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. MATCHES REVIEWED. PROSMCCTS rOP. AUSTRALIA’S TOUR. Received March 6, 11.5 p.m. London, March 5. The Observer, reviewing the test matches, disputes the accepted opinion that tbe batting of the Australians is their strong point, and asserts ttat the coming tour in England will show that the Australians* bowling and fielding is stronger than their batting. Gregory and Mailey are likely to have a triumphal progress if they keep fit and well throughout the tour. If the Australian team fails in England it will be due to lack cf runs. Douglas’ most serious mistake in Austria was omitting Fender and Wilson in any test, and including Howell and Waddington.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
