RIFLE SHOOTING.
DOMINION MEETING. YESTERDAY’S RESULTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Dominion Rifle Association’s meeting was continued to-day. The camp was early astir to find yesterday’s drizzle still hanging like a pall over the valley, and when a start was made prompty at eight o’clock on the opening match of 300, 500 and 600 yards, which does not count for the belt, the haze and drizzle made visibility a matter of difficulty at times Occasionally, of course, a man was lucky to get through while the rain held off for a few minutes. Some good shooting was done, despite the elements, and only the best touched money. The morning had -been windless, elevation being the only trouble, apart from visibility, but after mid-day a light right rear breeze began to flap flags a bit, but it soon died down into a faint, uncertain flicker, which varied the programme by unexpected arrivals from the left, but the most upsetting factor was a misty haze. It was Trentham in its trickiest mood 1 . The result was gn atmosphere of pea-soupy appearance, full of strange, thin spots, making up a crazy patchwork of light and shade that spoiled quite a lot of scores. The sun never once showed out, and the men ploughed. through the gloom to a generally inglorious end, and those who did get totals deserved them.
