l— ■ THE GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL. THE ANNUAL SPORTS. The New Plymouth Girls’ Kiel School swimunlng sports were held at the municipal bath® yesterday. Ideal weather prevailed, and big entries and keen sport were features of the day. A comprehensive programme was gone through under the management of the school staff. Miss Burrows acted as starter, and the judges were Miaseft Clarke and Skeet. The plate (Jiving competition was a moat Interesting event, and was closely contested, W. Boon and M. Thomson finally tieing for honors, will’ twelve plates each. In the senior championship, M. Thomson (18) gained most points, M. Whittle (12) being second. O. Firth secured an aggregate of 21 in the junior division, with L. Bell (12) runner up. Of the preparatory competitors M. Moyes secured I's points, and D. Willis 11 D. Clarke 5. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB FORMED COMING VISIT OF CHAMPIONS. At a meeting held last night with the object of forming a swimming club in New Plymouth there was a vely gratifying attendance, including several ladies. Mr. R. Day was voted to the chair. It was decided to form a club, to be called the New Plymouth Swimming Club, with headquarters at the municipal baths. Rules were adopted, and it was agreed to affiliate with the New Zealand Swimming Association. The following officers were elected;—President, Dr. E. A. Walker; vice-presidents, Messrs A. R. Standish, W. C. Weston. C. H. Weston, T. Furlong, Drs. Leatham, Brewster, Wade, Fookes, Messrs. G. Grey, W. H. Moyes, Denny Brown, J. Bennett, P G.. Nops, club captaiu, D. Sykes; deputy-captain K. Stohr, hon. sec., E. Clarke; hon. treasurer, F. J. Shearer; hon. auditor, L. B Webster; starter, L. B. Webster; hon. coach, G. Pugh. The following committee was chosen: Mr. R. Day (chairman), Misses S. and M. Mouatt and ..Purdue, Messrs. G Gilbert, K. Kirk, R. Wilson, R. Bayly, C. ‘Brown, Brokenshire, and F. J. Eggieton The annual subscription was fixed at ss, junior members 18 years and under and ladles 2s 6d, under 14 Is. Membership of the club to secure reduction of half a crown in the season tickets at the baths. The colov of the club are to be dark blue and amber. The chairman was authorised to take the necessary steps to secure the formation of a Taranaki Centre. At a subsequent meeting of tie committee arrangements were made for a schools carnival on March 17, and the programme was ap- < proved. It was reported that Miss Shand, the champion Indy swimmer of New Zealand, and Miss Bristed, the champion lady diver, would perform in New Plymouth at a date to be fixed, and that arrangements wore well in baud for a carnival on Easter Saturday, at which it is expected Auckland swimmers will be present. Mr. George Grey ha*, donated a ten guinea cup to bo competed for annually at the New Plymouth baths. It is probable that it will be allotted for a club relay race.
