AUSTRALIA v. WANGANUI. FIRST DAY’S PLAY. WANGANUI 7 WICKETS FOR 16. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The Australians commenced the seventh match of their tour to-day against Wanganui. The weather was fine but overcast, and the wicket was rather bumpy at times. Wanganui won the toss and, sent the visitors to the wickets. At the luncheon adjournment they had lost one wicket for 108 runs; and the innings closed for 286 after 5462 minutes’ actual play. Forssberg batted vigorously for 69 in 48 minutes, including four sixes and nine fours. Dr. Bogle scored 67, giving two chances early in the innings. Holland bowled most of the innings, coining out with an average of six wickets for 90 runs, bowling most consistently. Wanganui opened disastrously, Bernau being bowled by Hornibrook with his fourth ball, and Stapleton was retired similarly with the last ball of the first over. Forssberg bowled Smith with five on the board, after two overs, and Hornibrook next bo wiled London,, and. his average read three wickets for no runs. Johnston, left his crease after scoring a brace, and was stumped. Seven wickets fell for 12 runs, and the total was sixteen when stumps were drawn. Scores: AUSTRALIA. First Innings. MATCH AT TARURUTANGI. At Tarurutangi on Thursday afternoon a most enjoyable afternoon's cricket was indulged in between a local team and one from Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., New Plymouth. The local men batted first, running up the handsome total of 129 runs in good style, the principal run-getters being L. Bishop (30 not out), Hamblyn (20), A. Giddy (15), O. Skelton (13); to which the town team responded with 68, Kirk (20) being the onlv one to make double figures The bowling honors were shared by O. Skelton and L. Bishop for Tarurutangi, and Simpson and Valentine for Newton King, Ltd.
