PLUNKET DAY. / Stratford, Feb. 28. I The street sale held on Saturday in aid of the Plunket Society’s funds was a decided success, and the satisfactory sum of £3O was realised, which with the amount already in hand, will enable the society to claim the maximum sub< sidy from the Government. As there was no refreshment room, the result oi the day’s operations proved better than was expected, the money being gathered from the sale of produce and flowers and the two weight-guessing competitions. Donations were received during the day as follows: —Mrs. Marfell £l, Mrs. J. B. Hine 10s, Mr. H. Good 10s, knitting by Mrs. Cuthbert 'ds, Mr. Jugo ss, Mrs. Niary ss, and Mrs. Jensen 2s 6d. Mesdames R. Masters, C. Martin, Cuthbert, and J. McDonald had charge of the produce stall, and Mrs. and Miss Sole and Mrs. Hollands had charge of the flower stall. The cake weight-guefes-ing competition was won by Mrs. R. Mfesters, who guessed 131 b B|oz (half an ounce under the correct weight). Mrs. Hoole had charge of the sheep weightguessing competition, the result of which will not be known until later. The committee wish to express their thanks to Mr. E. G. Foster for the loan of his vacant shop. GENERAL. Mr. E. F. Hollands, late electrical engineer and acting-works engineer to the Borough Council, left for Wellington this morning. On Saturday afternoon the members of the electrical staff presented Mr. Hollands with a case of pipes. 1 The Rev. L. B.'Neale left for Wellington this morning to attend the annual Methodist Conference. A first offender for drunkenness who appeared before Mr. C. D. Sole, J.P., at the Stratford Police Court this morning, was convicted! and discharged. Operations are now being commenced at the new brickworks established at Douglas. The meeting of Saturday half-holiday supporters arranged for to-morrow evening has been postponed until Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock, in order not to clash with other important meetings to be held to-morrow night. It will be held in the Municipal Chambers.

On account of the Saturday half-holi-day, Mr. R. S. F. Craig, of Manaia, and Messrs. Hunter and Lyons, of Stratford, announce that they will in future visit Kaponga on Wednesdays instead of Fridays, commencing on March 9.
