ARCHITECTS’ CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, tast Night.' The Conference of Architects concluded to-day when the first meeting of the new council was held. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. C. R. Ford (Wanganui); bon. secretary, Mr. G. Young (Wellington); hon treasurer, Mi. W. Feilding (Wellington). Various committees were also appointed. It was decided to refer the question of revising the educational syllabus to the committee on education. The following were appointed a special committee to report to the branches on the question of the revision of the conditions of contracts: The President, and Messrs. Crichton, Swan, Catfield, Munnings, and Page. It was resolved that the next annual meeting be held at Wanganui. EX-PUBLIC SERVANTS’ BONUS. Wellington, Last Night Superannuated civil servants held a meeting to-day and decided to make strong representations to the Govern: ment for a continuance of the existing bonus. DIPLOMA OF COMMERCE. Wellington, Feb. 25. A scheme for the establishment of a diploma of commerce was considered by representatives of the bankers, insurance and shipping officers guilds, and of the New Zealand Society of Accountants yesterday. The scheme was presented by the Dunedin committee, representing the Otago University, the Society of Accountants, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Manufacturers’ Association. It was explained that the suggested groups are the industry group, the banking and finance group, the shipping and transport group, the insurance group, and the political and social science group. The proposal wr.s most favorably received, the guild representatives undertaking to get into touch with employers asking them to co-operate in furthering the scheme, which in due course will be placed before the University Senate for approval. THEFT OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS. Dunedin, Feb. 25. Theophilus La Monthe Ralfe, who had pleaded guilty at Oamaru to four charges of theft, came up for sentence. The money involved, which was taken from patriotic funds, totalled £686. Prisoner had paid back £206. A sentence of three years’ imprisonment was imposed.
