FINE WEATHER PROSPECTS. HOBBS WILL NOT PLAY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 24, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 24. The weather is fine for the final test match on Friday. It is definitely stated that Hobbs will be unable to play. Russell is also expected to be absent, as after practice his tlrtimb was considerably swollen. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. WARNER ON TEST MATCHES. London, Feb. 23. Mr. Warner, interviewed, said that the Australian team for England was excellent, powerful and varied batting, including two brilliant steady left-handers. The wicket-keepers are Al. Gregory and Mailey are matchwinning bowlers, while the change bowlers keep a fine length, enabling the two cracks to rest. The side appears to be well captained by Armstrong. Referring to Hobbs’ opinion that England will win the majority of the next tests, Warner agrees that England will be harder to beat on her own wickets. Batting will be all right, but we must find a bowler for hard wickets, for on sticky wickets I beieve we shall beat Australia, but I am uncertain. We shall endeavour to avoid having a batting tail. I am not despondent regarding our chances. I always was an optimist, which is a good thing in cricket. Congratulate Australia for me on their well-deserved victory* They will receive a great welcome. Mr. Warner expressed anxiety regarding Hearne’s condition.
