WHARF CRISES.
WELLINGTON STOPPAGE. MORE VESSELS IDLE. SEVERAL HOME LINERS. /K By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 24. The silence of the officials of the Watersider Workers’ Federation continues, but a jjpecial stop-work meeting of the local union will be held to-morrow to discuss the position. Four Home liners—the Raranga, Pakeha, Ruahine and Athenic—were removed to an anchorage in the stream to-day. There are now eight vessels idle in the stream and eleven idle at the wharf. The total tonnage of the idle boats is 72,074 tons. About 900 watersiders are idle. The Rimutaka, Dorset and Otarama are due in Wellington within the next two or three days and will stand by until the trouble is settled. DISPUTES COMMITTEE TO MEET. Wellington, Feb. 24. The Waterside Union has asked for a meeting of the local disputes committee to consider! the waterfront (deadlock. The employers have agreed and the meeting is fixed for 2.30 thia afternoon. LYTTELT6N MEN WORKING. Christchurch, Feb. 24. All vessels at Lyttelton were worked this morning, sufficient trucks being available. Overtime was worked last night. It is not anticipated at present that the waterside trouble will extend to Lyttelton. z AUCKLAND POSITION. DRIVERS RECEIVE NOTICE. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Master Carriers’ Association passed a resolution declaring that owing to the cessation of work on the waterfront the employers of drivers were compelled to minimise expenses, and members of the association decided to give drivers a week’s provisional notice. Every effort will be made to keep as many employed as circumstances permit.
