INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)' A successful Gardeh Party was held in the grounds of Messrs. J. Winfield and C. O. Roberts on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the St. Andews Ladies Guild. There was a good attendance, tennis, croquet, etc., being enjoyed by a number. Produce stalls showed a liberal supply of gifts and brought in good returns. The New Plymouth Citizens’ Band stopped here for three quarters of an hour on Sunday morning, and gave several selections. There was not a great crowd to hear them, but those who were- present enjoyed it. A collection was taken up amounted to £2 6s. A promise was given that the band would pay another visit next month, and give us* a 1 whole afternoon to ourselves. I hope they will not be allowed to forget that promise, and that they will pick a fine day. Mr. F. A. Lloyd. County Clerk, visited Wellington on business last week and attended a conference of local body officers, acting as secretary to tire conference. It was decided to form a N.Z. Local Body Officer’s Guild, and Mr. Lloyd was invited to take up the position of organising secretary. I hear that Mr. Lloyd’s successor as clerk to the County Council has been appointed, Mr. Neilson, of Nelson, being selected. Nominations for two councillors for the County close this week, and an election will be held on March 2.
