LAWN TENNIS.
THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED. For f’ae Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association’s tournament, which opens on the New Plymouth Club's courts on Thursday, record entries have been received, and the fixture gives promise of being a highly successful one. This is the first tournament which has been held since war conditions, interrupted sport, but in view of the support accorded on this occasion the tournament will no' doubt be firmly re-established. All arrangements are well In hand, and the courts should oe in splendid condition. They will be closed for play this week until Thursday. The entrants include all ti e lady members o/ the Auckland team, who will meet Taranaki in a representative fixture on the 22nd inst. They are: Miss Marjorie Macfarlane (an cx-New Zealand doubles champion), and Misses Paton, McCormick, and Mrs. Marshall. Other nominations that have been received include the following: E. W. Griffiths (of Auckland) who is a former New Zealand champion; Powdrell and Lampe, prominent Wanganui representatives; A. E. Sims (Hamilton) ; Wallace and Dickio (Waverley), and • leading Hawera and Stratford players.
