AUSTRALIA v. WELLINGTON. THE SECOND DAY’S PLAY. VISITORS IN WINNING POSITIONBy Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 12. The cricket match, between the Australians and Wellington was continued to-day in the presence of 8000 spectators. The Australians resumed their first innings with the batsmen not out overnight (Bogle and Liddicutt), and the pair carried the score from 85 to 167, when Liddicutt was run out when attempting a short second run. Kippax followed, but soon lost Bogle, who had given five chances in Ms innings. Pellew came in, hut with the score at 211 Kippax got a leg in front of a delivery from Brice. Waddy followed, snd the score at the luncheon adjournment was 216.
On resumption, with 6 runs added, Pellew was out, and Ratcliffe followed, only to lose Waddy, who sent an easy one, back to the bowler.—233—6—l2. Lwmpard and Ratcliffe carried the total to 261, when the latter was caught in fine long-1eg.—261—7—21. Then Ransford joined Lampara, tout lost the latter soon, being caught by Middleton off a mishit.—27s— g'~ r l3. Hornibrook did not shape comfortably, being clean bowled by an excellent ball from Barclay.—2B3—9—s. Ironmonger was last man, but he soon lost Ransford, who was smartly stumped by Cbndliffe, and the innings ended for 293.
Wellington, in their second innings, fared rather disastrously against the excellent bowling of Hornibrook, and at the call of time ■ had lost 7 wickets for 91 runs. Hornibrook took 6 wickets for 47. RESULT OF MATCHES. The competition in North Taranaki was continued on Saturday in good cricketing weather. At Pukekura Park the New Plymouth North and South teams met. North eventually winning by 35 runs—l49—ll4. O d Boys defeated High School at the school grounds by an innings and 15 runs. Details of the matches are:— NORTH v. SOUTH. North opened, making 140, a feature being Macdonald’s total of 77. Of the opposing bowlers Bragg (5 wickets for 29 runs), and Saunders 03 for 25), were the most success- ; ful. South replied with 114, of which Heskett was responsible for 54. Most of the Southern wickets were taken by H. Quickfall (3 for 19 runs), and Mason (5 for 39). The scoring was as follows
Bowling analysis—H. Quickfall 3 wickets for 19, Carey 0 for 41, Mason 5 for 39, Macdonald 1 for 7. OLD BOYS v. HIGH SCHOOL. The" school eleven ""commenced play, and made 48 runs (Taylor 12, Brodie 11, and Palmer 10). Bottrill took 5 wickets for S 8 runs and Eggleton 4 for 13, while each bowled two maiden overs. The Old Boys’ innings resulted in a total of 148 runs, Bewley, Bottrill, Papps, and Billing being the main hitters. For the school Palmer took 4 wickets for 44 runs, and Foden got 2 for 15. Batting again the school team made 85 (Palmer 16, Lash 11. Brown 10, Holden not out 10). Osborne secured six of the wickets at the expense of 34 runs. This left Old Boys the comfortable margin of an innings and some runs. Scores:— HIGH SCHOOL. First Innings.

At Victoria Park, Stratford, on Saturday afternoon, tie Stratford Public Works Department team met the Tahora Public Works Department team, , the match resulting in a win for the latter by 69 runs on the first innings. The visitors were afterwards entertained by the Stratford team at the Medina Tea Rooms. Following are the scores:— STRATFORD.
