LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

ESTATES BOUGHT IN TARANAKI. PARLIAMENTARY RETURN. During last session of Parliament, at the request of Mr. Witty, an order was made for a return to be laid before the House showing separately for each province: (1) The names of all persons from whom the Government have purchased land for returned soldiers; and (2) the amount paid per acre for each lot separately. A copy of the return has been received by the member for Taranaki (Mr. S. G. Smith). It contains the following list of owners from whom land war acquired in Taranaki: Perry, A. L., 729 acres, at £l2; Hutson, A. J., 640 acres, at £25; Fisher, T. W., 860 acres, at £3 7s 6d; Hine, E., 1715 acres, at £10: Parkes. H and G.. 397 acres, at £37 16s; Blake, J P., 50 acres at £2O 18s: Fraser, J., 696 acres at £2l 16s; Gilchrist, J. H., 3(12 acres, at £26; McCutchan, W. A., F. E. J.. E. 8., W. A. E., I. 0., and G F 5317 acres, at £11; Young, C. F., 1443 acres at £l2 10-- Saxton Trust, 197 acres at £3l 19s; Public Trustee, 147 acres at £2B Us; Mair and Howie, 15-20 acres at £l2; Perry, W. H., 3000 acres at £ll. The above are ordinary purchases, and the return gives the following particulars of areas acquired under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Amendment Act, 1917: Paul, D., 84 acres at £24;>McKay, J.. 520 acres, at £.14 10s; Mills, F. H„ 500 acres at £7 4s.
