SEAMEN SENT TO GAOL. By Telagraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Six seamen appeared before the -Magistrate (Mr. McCarthy) at Lyttelton to-day charged with the theft of, or receiving goods, from cargo and railway trucks. The Magistrate said fines and probation were not a deterrent, and the i question was whether a certain section of labor was to be permitted to defy the law and augment its wages in an illicit fashion. He imposed sentences as follows:—Frank M. Orelle, receiving, and Axil Olsson, theft, six months; Richard Ogden, theft, Henr/ Parker, receiving, Arthur Woods, theft, Ralph Hellings, theft, two months’ each. The last tvlo accused were youthful petty officers on the ship Trewellard.
