HIDES STILL LOWER.
SALE AT STRATFORD. CALF-SKINS FIRMER (From' Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night With the exception of calf-skins, which showed an advance of up to fid per lb ,ou the quotations fol the last hide and skin sale at Stratford in December, there was a further fall in price?'at to-day’s sale. Butchers’ cow-hides were down about a IJd; heavy ox, about the same as last sale; medium ox, IJd to 2d down and light ox 2d down. Farmers’ hides v’ere entirely neglected and sold for ridiculously low prices, but calfskins, of which .there w’as a fair offering, brought up to Is fid per lb, showing an advance of from 5d to 6<l per lb. Sheep-skins also show'ed a slight decline, salted pelts being > reduced by about 3d each and salted lambs and dry sheep-skins fetching about the same as last sale. The tallow’ market was qiiite'* lifeless, butchers’ bringing 19s per cwt, a decline of 3s fid on the previous sale, l and farmers’ tallow only 15s fid ip per cwt. A full bench of nine buyers was operating, but a good number of the lots were passed in, owing to the reserves not being reached.
