AERIAL MAIL SERVICE. Timaru, Jan. 31. A trial trip of the aerial TimaruChristchurch mail service was inaugurated to-day. The Avro ’plane accomplished the journey in 1 hour 40 minutes, arriving at 9.40 a.m., after stopping at Ashburton to drop and pick up bags. An altitude of 500 to 1000 feet was/maintained in spite of a strong head wind. There was clear weather after leaving Ashburton. Over 200 letters and a bundle of newspapers were carried. The ’plane returned at noon.
