THE HALF-HOLIDAY.
STRATFORD RETAILERS’ PLEA. POSTPONING THE CHANGE. Our Stratford correspondent writes: Separate telegrams were despatched ro the Minister of Labor to-day, expressing the views of local retailers on the half-holiday question and asking that the matter be held over for a decision at a poll in April. The senders of the telegrams included drapers, grocers, stationers, butchers, bakers, boot retailers and others. ELTHAM WANTS A POLL. A meeting of business people was held in Eltham last night, at which delegates from Hawera were, present, to consider the halfholiday question. It was resolved : "That this meeting form itself into a Saturday half-holiday committee to prepare and present to the Borough Council a requisition for a poll at the next election.” Three delegates—Messrs. , Tristram, Crump and Bridger —were appointed to attend the provincial conference to be held at Stratford at some future date to consider the half-holiday question. The Saturday half-holiday has been adopted in Blenheim and Dargaville by their respective borough councils.
