EXPORT OF PRODUCE.

SPACE FOR CHEESE AND MEAT. MORE SHIPS REQUIRED. ALLOTMENT FOR FEBRUARY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Premier has received the following telegram from the High Commissioner: "I placed your request for a larger allocation of cheese space before the Ministry of Food, who point out that space for 8500 tons, representing considerably more than the 500,000 cubic feet authorised, was allocated in steamers listed for January loading. The total tonnage listed for February and March loading is unfortunately very small, partly owing to a very poor turnround of ships in New Zealand. The Ministry is afraid, therefore, that it will not be possible in those months to arrange heavy cheese loadings, except at the expense of private shipment of meat, which will be wanted here, and is beginning to accumulate in New Zealand.” The Premier has cabled expressing dissatisfaction at the small amount of shipping space allotted New Zealand tor February and March, and urging the immediate transfer of refrigerated steamers to New Zealand for early loading. The allotment of space in the five steamers listed for February loading has been made as follows: Cheese: 85,100 crates (equal to 425,500 cubic feet). Free meat: 252,173 freight carcases (equal -to 756,519 cubic feet). Total space for free produce: 1,182,019 cubic feet. Butter: 198,200 boxes (297,300 cubic feet). Government meat: 29,177 freight carcases (87,531 cubic feet). Total space for Imperial Government produce: 384,831 cubic feet. The Imperial Government meat left on hand after the despatch of steamers listed for February loading will be as follows: Beef, in quarters, 474,652 601 b freight carcases; mutton, lamb and sundries, 16,665; total, 491,317 freight carcases.
