S. Brooker, and R. L. Parkin. HOBSON STREET MAINTENANCE. Ten ratepayers of Hobson Street recently petitioned the council asking that the street receive attention, and pointing out that the route carried a good deal of traffic to the East End beach. Reporting on this, the engineer (Mr. W. H. Cook) stated: "I am so short of labor that work of the above nature must stand over for the present. As soon as the tarring is. completed this and other jobs can be put in hand. As the street in question is included in the £57,000 loan work, I did not propose to spend a great deal on it out of the general account. A DANGEROUS CORNER. A communication was received from Mr. W. Fulton, directing attention to the dangerous nature of the corner at • the junction of Dawson and Powderham Streets, near Dr. Holmes’ residence. He expressed the opinion that the hedge should be cut down to a- lower level. Reporting on this matter. Inspector Day said the corner was really the most dangerous in New Plymouth. He recommended that a white block be placed in the centre of the road, to force motorists on their own side of the road. Cr. Sykes said there were quite a number of corners on which propertyowners should be compelled to cut hedges down. : Consideration of the matter was deferred pending enquiry as to the by-law relating to the cutting of hedges. GENERAL. The resident engineer (Mr. Pearless) was authorised to purchase an electric locomotive for use on tramlines at the hydro-electric works, after conferring with the electrical engineer. The estimated cost is £1630. With regard to a report made at last meeting that the Waiwaka Terrace Road was breaking up, the streets sub-com-mittee reported having inspected the "road, but they did not recommend any aati&n at present-,.
