NEW HOUSES

BUILDING LAST MONTH. According to the figures relating to the issue of permits for new buildings in New Plymouth, work in January has not been so brisk as in the previous few months, probably on account of the period being broken through holidays. New work for which permits were issued, however, was of a total value of £12,500, which shows that the operations in the trade are being fairly well maintained. In the total fourteen new houses are included, and in practically all cases the work has been commenced. This branch is a considerable item in each month’s total, recording further expansion of the residential area in New Plymouth.
