LAST QUARTER’S FIGURES. MARKED REVENUE INCREASE. CUSTOMS NEARLY DOUBLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A comparative statement gazetted today of receipts and expenditure in the Consolidated Fund shows that the balance at the beginning of the December quarter of 1920 was £17,561,179, compared with £13,035,986 for the corresponding quarter of 1919. Totals 6,077,706 7,800,644 Including the balance in hand, and also £600,000 repaid from the Nauru and Ocean Islands Account, £250,000 as proceeds of Treasury Bills issued, and minor items, the total revenue to December 31, 1920, amounted to £26,240,121, against £19,152,436 at December 31, 191’9.
The expenditure side of the account shows the balance in hand at the end of the December quarter, 1920, as £4,363,598, compared with £12,774,417 for the corresponding quarter of 1919. Permanent appropriations totalled £3,404,371 for 1920, against £3,204,689 for 1919. Annual departmental appropriations were £4,875,901 for 1920, against £3,172,930 for 1919. On the expenditure side for 1920 also appear transfers to the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Account totalling £12,246,250, transfer to Reserve Fund Account £1,200,000, and Treasury Bills redeemed £600,000.
