Miss Bleibtrey swam a Quarter of a mile in 6min. 37 2-ssec., which easily breaks the official record of 6min. 42sec. established in England in 1919 by Miss C. M. Jeans. LAWN TENNIS. WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. YESTERDAY’S RESULTS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Master ton. Last Night. The Wellington provincial lawn tennis championship tournament was continued at Masterton to-daj’ in glorious weather. The courts were much improved, and there was a large attendance. The men's championship doubles was won by Peacock and Swanston (Wellington) after a hard fought three-set match J’rom Dr. Salmond and Salmond (Wellington). In the men’s handicap singles Grancc and E. Reeves met in the semi-final, and the winner plays Barkman. Mrs. T. H. Potter, provincial champion, and Miss Nancy Curtis, New Zealand champion, will meet in the final of the ladles’ s’ngles.. C. F. Williams (Wellington) created a surprise by defeating Wilding (Christchurch) in the men’s singles. The final .’s yet to be decided. The -men’s handicap doubles has not yet been completed. The tournament will bo continued on Tuesday morning.
