NOTES ON THE RACING. GLOAMING’S EASY VICTORS RECORD BETTING. (By Telegraph—Special to News.) Wellington, Last Night. Beautiful weather favored the Wellington Racing Club to-day for the conclusion of its summer meeting. There was a great attendance for a third day Speculation was heavy, and the total put through, the machine for the meeting is a Wellington record. There were big fields. The preset -e of McFlinn in the saddle helped to account for Falstaff being popular in the Jumpers’ Flat. Falstaff began well and was always in the leading division. The field was well bunched as it turned for home, when Falstaff took the lead and looked sure to win. Over the last bit Old Gold, who had moved up from the back, finished fast and got to within Half a length of Falstaff. King Star was two lengths away third, Royal Battery was fourth, Maniahera fifth, and Pacific Slope sixth. Voluble, who had keen second to Bonnie Heather in the Douro Cup, was fancied In the Melrose Handicap, and there was plenty of support for Prince Martian, who finished very fast on Saturday. Prince Martian got away first, but Wamba soon went to the front. Triboulet joined Prince Martian, and Voluble -lay In behind the leading trio. Wa«nba was ktill in front as they turned for home, but Wlow the distance Voluble and Prince Martian Came away, and the latter won by a length, with Wamba, two lengths away third and Triboulet fourth.-

The Fordell trained Tamatete was strongly fancied in the Hopeful Stakes. At the staging post Kilreid was factious, and when the tapes were lifted l:e refused to go with the field. Tamatete, Winning Hit, and Anomaly were well forward when the course proper was reached, but from there on it was hardly a race, for Tamatete came away and won without exertion by a length from Winning Hit, who was half a length in fltont of Scion. Soldier’s Lovo was fourth, and then came Five Eighths and Anomaly. Wagering on the Waterloo Plate was small, the inclusion of Gloaming in the field making tlie event -as near a foregone conclusion as can be found on a racecourse. The. race was an exercise for Gioaiming, who cantered along in front of the field all the way, and won with ridiculous ease by eight lengths and a half. Kick Off beat Rossini by a. length and a half for second, and there was no bther starter.

After his goad showing in the Telegraph Handicap on the first day of the meeting Warplane was regarded as unbeatable in the Summer Handicap. At the start Counter Attack rushed away with several lengths lead. 80-peep, followed, and then came Warplane and Maioha. Counter Attack was collared at the bottom of the straight, where Eleus hit tl:e front. Warplane challenged, and in the run up the straight had the Southerner beaten, and appeared to have the race in hand when Bonnie Heather came fast on the outside and won by & neck. Elems was a length and a half away third. Counter Attack was fourth.

The Trentham mare Esperance and Pente were the elect of backers in the Consolation Handicap. Nobleman began best and led out of the straight, but before the back stretch was entered Hyttus went to the front. Dusky Eve ran into second position, and a while later Esperance became prominent. Royal Stag, who was well placed, was sent right back and on the top stretch Nobleman suddenly went back. Dusky Eve led at the home turn. Esperance was soon done with. Volo then came through, and was the only one to seriously trouble Dusky Eve, and got to within about a length of him. Idle Talk was a length and a half back third, and Royal ■Stag, who came again, was fourth.

The City Handicap saw the downfall of the much fancied Chrysostom. Miss Mimic began well, and so also did Solfanello. At the straight entrance Solfanello was in front, nicely clear of the rest of the field, with Income well up. Solfanello went on to win very comfortably by two and a half lengths, and Earlj’ Dawn got up on the post and beat Income by a head. Miss Mimic was fourth and Chrysostom was some distance back. Speculation took a wide range in the concluding event of the meeting, the Kaitoke Handicap, for which there was a big pool on the machine. It was a good race among the leading division all the way, and as they raced on to the course proper several had chances. Canzonet took the lead below the distance, but was immediately challenged by Automoana. The pair fought a neck and neck finish to the post and the decision went to Automoana. Hepta was third and Blrkle fourth. The general opinion was that O'Shea got Canzonet tip in the last stride and won. FOXTON RACES SECOND DAY’S RESULTS. Foxtbn. Last Night. Thera was glorious weather for the second day of the Foxtcn meeting; There was a good attendance and racing was interesting. The handled £38.195, against £25,681
