REPATRIATION.
THE DEMAND DECLINING. INCREASE OF REPAYMENT. ■ Interesting figures in regard to the work of the Repatriation Department were given on Monday by the Minister in charge of the Department (the Hon. D. H. Guthrie). “The expenditure on repatriation,” said the Minister, “reached its maximum in December, 1919, in which month £120,000 was advanced to soldiers. Since then the expenditure has steadily decreased month by month, while the income from repayments of loans has increased steadily. It is anticipated that within the next three months the monthly income from payments will I about equal the monthly expenditure. The figures for the last six months, available under both heads, are as fol-, low: Monthly expendi- Monthly collecture on soldiers, tion from soldrs.
Mr. Guthrie explained that 85 per cent of the expenditure was by way of 'loan. The total collection to the end of November, he said, was £370,542.
