ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
UNKNOWN BODY FOUND. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Taumarunui, Jan. 8. The body of a man which was seen in the Wanganui River on Wednesday by a tourist on a river boat was recovered yesterday by the police. It was very decomposed, the features being unrecognisable, and so far it has not been identified. A letter was found in a pocket. It was from a lady and was addressed, “Dear Ken,” arranging to meet the deceased man at the Waimarino railway station on December 24. If Ik? was not at the station she would take it that he had gone to Tokaanu and she would follow. The letter was dated December 13, with no heading and no signature. It was reported that a man named John Gardiner, of Mangaohutu, was missing, but his friends so far have been unable to identify the body as his.
