TYPHUS-FIGHTING FUND By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 8. Lord Milner, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has cabled to the New Zealand Government, at the request of the Assembly of the League of Nations, making an urgent and immediate appeal for | funds to assist in combatting typhus in Eastern Europe, beginning in Poland as the centre An appeal is being made to all the countries of the world, and £2,000,000 is required. Money may be forwarded to the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. SCHOOL REQUISITES PROBLEM. Auckland, Jan. 8. “I do not see why the Auckland Education Board cannot have a shop and supply most of the school requisites to school committees,” said the Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education), in reply to a complaint about the constant heavy expense to parents of providing books, stationery and pencils. “It may mean a lot of extra work for the board, but it would do away with the middleman’s profit and ensure a uniform and good supply.”
