EGMONT BOX COMPANY.
THE’ STRIKE SETTLED. In connection with the strike of the employees of the Egmont Box Company at Ohutu, the chairman of directors (Mr. J- B. Murdoch) held another coiference with the disaffected employees, when a settlement was arrived at. The secretary (Mr. N. E. Drayton) received intimation of this yesterday in a telegram from the manager at Ohutu (Mr. McGlashan), in which the latter stated that cutting had been recommenced, and requested that the branding machine, which was recenly brought to Eltham, be returned to Ohutu. The machine will be despatched to-day, when the work in hand locally has been completed. No details of the terms of settlement are at present available, but it appears certain the men have had to climb down, as the directors were adamant in their decision not to recognise the King Country Timber Workers’ Union as demanded by the men.—Argus.
