CRICKET MATCH TO-DAY.
WANGANUI AND TARANAKI. OPENS THIS AFTERNOON. A representative cricket match between Wanganui and Taranaki elevens will be opened at New Plymouth today. The match was timed to commence at 16.30, but the Wanganui team did not arrive by the mail train as expected last evening, having stopped in Wanganui for a rest after motoring from Gisborne, where they bad been engaged in the Hawke Cup match. The team leave W’anganui for New Plymouth by motor at nine o’clock this morning, and the match is timed to commence at 2 o’clock at the High School grounds. The visitors are: L. Wood, W. Wells, D. Leggatt, M. Derby, C. Stewart, W. Luxford. A. Hales, D. Murchie, J. Smith, C. Holland, and D. Coster. The Tarahaki team will be as picked, and is as follows: Penny, A. Hughes, Pratt, Bain, Little, Macdonald, Gibson, P. Sarten, I. W\ Palmer, C. Foreman and Morrison. H. Hughes (emergency). Of the Wanganui team there are only four who played at Gisborne, namely, Wood, Wells, Derby and Holland. The combination, however, can be considered a moderate batting one, and fairly strong in boiling. There are a number of batsmen who ean usually, be relied upon to make a good display. Smith is a very fast bowler, and Wood and Wells are both dangerous. In fielding the team should also be strong. The Taranaki combination is a very fair one. Tn the trial match recently Penny, A. Hughes, Macdonald and Pratt put up good displays, and Bain, Gibson and Foreman bowled well. A keen contest between the teams is anticipated. The match will be continued tomorrow.
