RECORD IN BIRTHS.
MARRIAGES ALSO MAKE RECORD. RETURNS FOR PAST YEAR. The returns of the number of births deaths, and marriages in the district of New Plymouth, supplied by the registrar (Mr. J. S. S. Medley), show that during the month of December there were 41 births, an increase of nine over the same period of last year, while there was a slight decrease in the number of deaths. Marriages show an increase of four. For the year 1920 births numbered 555 (a record), the increase over the preceding year being 139. Marriages also made a record, and the number of deaths revealed an increase of 54 over 1919. Some of the deceased had reached a.very advanced age, 15 of the males being over 80 years, and one was 102. Of the females who died fifteen ' were over the age of 85, and one had attained her 95th year. Another record is contained in the number of marriages by the registrar, these totalling 41. against 30 last year. Following are the details for the various periods: MONTH OF DECEMBER.
