RIFLE SHOOTING.
MEETING AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 31. The annual rifle meeting of the Wellington Rifle Association opened at Trentham to-day, in fine weather. The entries numbered 105, competitors being present from all parts of the Dominion. The matches fired were the Wellington, Petone and Karori matches, and the best shooting was done in the Petone Match, in which half a dozen competitors made 48 points, and the highest score 87. Details: — WELLINGTON MATCH. 10 shots at 300 yards.—Charles Whiteman (Suburbs) 47, J. Smart (Suburbs), H. V. Croxton (Karori) 46; H. Mawley (Opaki) 46; J. L. Turner (Suburbs), H. Lewis (Suburbs), Captain N. Simmonds (Eketahuna), A. Govenlock (Woodville), Broughton (Rangitike'i), and H. T. Boon (Suburbs) 45 each, F. C. Coxhead (Tahera). T. Orr (Greytown) 44 each. PETONE MATCH, 10 shots at 500 yards.— Captain A. Neilson (Hawke’s Bay Regiment), J. Scott (Petone), and Broughton (Rangitikei) 48 each; H. C. Trotman (Greytown), Captain W. N. Masefield (Marlborough). T. W. Warburton (Petone), 48 each; V. Donald (Opnkl), H. T. Boon (Suburbs), Major H, H. Richardson (NZ.S.C.), A. Halmshaw (Christchurch), and H. Hunt (Suburbs), 47 each; J.
