FIRE AT STRATFORD.
OUTBREAK IN TWO SHOPS.
THE CONTENTS DESTROYED.

Stratford, Last Night A fire occurred at Stratford at about 9.20 to-night, and resulted in two shops in Broadway central being considerably damaged. The building is a twdstorey wooden one, owned by. On K«e and Co., who occupy part of it as a fruit shop and dwelling, the other portion being used as a fisli restaurant by W. Harris.
The origin of the fire is not known, the first indication that the building wan ablaze being when fames were seen issuing from the partition between tha two shops, presumably caused "' a defective chimney. The alarm v«. fwon, and when the. brigade arrived tt was found the water pressure was insufficient to be effective until all tha outside mains were cut' off. In spite of this the brigade soon got the fire well under control, but not before a fair amount of damage was 'done to the inside of the buildings, and the contents of both shops were destroyed. The building is insured in the Union Office for £4OO, and On ICee and Co.'a stock and furniture ]» covered by & policy of £SOO in the same office. Harris' stock and furniture is insure* in the Union Office for £IOO.
