A cable from London says the Prince of Wales has accepted the Australian and New Zealand Club's invitation to luncheon at Australia House.
Mr. W. C. Rapp, vice-president of the Brocton (Mass., U.S.A.) Agricultural Society, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth. Mr. D. Findlay, stationmaster at Normanby, has been promoted to the charge of the Patea station, where lie has taken up his duties.
The annual conference of the New Zealand Technical School Teachers' Association resolved to recommend the election of Mr. A. L. Moore (New Plymouth) as representative of the North Island technical teachers on the Appeal Board, and Mr. R. J.'Thompson as representative on the. South Island Appeal Board. Mr. James David Foote, who died at Pelorns Sound, was a pioneer of the district. He was born at New Plymouth 08 years ago, and took part in the Maori War. He resided in the Sounds for 47 years. The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr. T. H. Garland, head of the manufacturing firm of Garland, Ltd., of that city. Mr. Garland, who arrived in New Zealand by the British Queen 38 years ago, was in his younger days a prominent athlete.
One of Ashburton's early pioneer farmers, in the person of Mr. Andrew Leatham, has passed away. The deceased was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, in. 1841. He arrived in Auckland in 1882 in the ship Indian Empire, and twelve months later he removed to Canterbury. Mr. James Napier, who died at Chvistchurch, was the father of the late Captain D. G. Napier, who was killed in action in Belgium. The deceased, who was 07 years of age, arrived in New Zealand from Scotland fifty-six years ago, and engaged in farming. The late Mr. Napier was a prominent official of the Hororata Racing Club. ' The death is announced from Raumai of Mr. William Stevens, one of the pioneer settlers of that district. The late Mr. Stevens, who was 91 years of age, arrived in New Zealand by .the ship Douglas in 1874, and settled'in Feilding, afterwards removing to Pohangina, where he had remained ever since. The Presbyterian Synod concurred with the Church 'Board in the appointment of Mr. Herbert Ramsay, M.A., as Professor of English Language and Literature at Otago University. Mr. Ramsay is aged 34, and is at present assistant professor in West Australia, and has just been appointed head of the department there. He is a graduate of St, Andrew's and Aberdeen and obtained j. first-class in classics.
Mr. G. H. Bullard, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taranaki, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands for Canterbury, succeeding. Mr. H. D. W Hazard, who retires from the Department at the end of March next. Mr. Bfillard was some time ago appointed Commissioner at Auckland,' but an appeal was lodged against the promotion of the Commissioner in that city to Surveyor-General, and it was upheld* The latest appointment is also subject to any appeal that may arise. At the conclusion of the day's races at Awapuni on Monday representatives of the Wanganui District Clubs, which comprise Waverley-Waitotara, Wanganui, Marton, Rangitikei, I'eilding, Foxt,on, Ashhurst and Manawatu, met in the stewards" 1 room for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr. Edmund Goodbehere, secretary of the .Peilding Jockey Club, who has been a representative on the conference for the Wanganui district for twenty-five years. Mr. J. H. P. Strang, president of the Manawatu Racing Club, presided, and, on behalf of the clubs mentioned, asked Mr. J. H. Perrett, as the oldest official in connection with the District Racing Conference present, to make the presentation, which took the form of a very valuable gold watch, suitably inscribed. Mr. Goodbehere, who was visibly affected, responded in appropriate terms
Six thousand two hundred bales of Wool have been entered for the Napier wool sale, to take place in the Municipal Theatre on 3rd January.
■Several Wairarapa farmers are shipping their wool to London, having decided to risk the open market.

While out cattle hunting he was treed by a wild cow for three hpurs. From one of these vines the captive made a lasso, and after considerable manoeuvring managed to drop it over the animal's head.
