SIR BASSET EDWARDS.

AN APPRECIATION BY THE BAR.

At a general meeting of the Taranaki District Law Society held in the law library on Wednesday night, reference was made to the fact that the Hon. Sir Worley Bassctt Edwards was retiring from the Supreme Court Bench. Several members of the Bar spoke in eulogistic terms of His Honor's great ability and wide knowledge of the law, and, on the motion of the president of the Society (Mr. H. R. Billing), seconded by the Hon. 0. Samuel, K,C, the following resolution was passed unanimously: "The Taranaki District Law Society having just heard of the intention of His Honor Sir Bassett Edwards to retire from the Bench, desires to express its profound admiration of his indicia! ability and its appreciation of thf> great services rendered by him to the Dominion during the many yearhe has held the high office of a -fudge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand."

The Hon. Mr. Justice Edwards has held the position of Supreme Court Judge continuously for more than 24 years, and is retiring at the close of this year. He is generally recognised as one of the ablest Judges that have occupied the Bench in this Dominion.
