CHRISTMAS ATTRACTIONS.
TARANAKI HOLIDAY FIXTURES. To-day is Christmas Eve, with its bustle of shopping and attendant festivity. In all the Taranaki towns tht shopping activity which has become more animated daily, will reach its 2enith tonight, amid scenes characteristic of the Christmas season. Many offices closed last evening, but the real holiday com' meiiees with the close of business tonight. In Taranaki one of the chief holiday fixtures is the Jockey Club's suniffiti meeting at Now Plymouth on Mondaj and Tuesday (27th and 2Sth hist.). A sports gathering is to be held at Elthan on Monday under the auspices of th< Cycling and Athletic Union, and thin hat attracted a large number of compete tors. At. picnic resorts, such as thi, mountain and the gardens at Ngaere, largo numbers of pleasure seeker* will find a pleasant day's outing, while the seafront is sure to be as popular as ever. Of the entertainments at 'night the picture theatres will screen special holiday programmes, and at the Empire Theatre the Fashion Plate Revile Company will commence their New Plymouth season on Monday.
