TRANSMISSION OF CHRISTMAS' XETTEKS. DELAY BY THE STRIKE. The disorganisation of the mail ser vices owing to the shipping trouble li Australia will, it is anticipated, have i serious effect upon the .transmission o the always exceptionally heavy Christ mas mails. The Maheno should liav. brought via Auckland a big mail, letta and parcels, and thei;c will also be eo\ siderariile trouble in Bending Christmas mails from New Zealand across the Tasman'Sea. The regular service has now been completely interrupted, and it is anticipated that the Postal authorities will be compelled to take advantage of any coliiei or other steamer that leaves Australia, unaffected by (lie strike of stewards. It is understood that the postal authorities in Australia will employ the gamp means of getting away the heavy shipmeiits of epistolary good cheer. The Waipori, which left New Plymouth yesterday for Newcastle, took a mail. A feature of the Christmas season in Taranaki this year is the popularity of the standardised telegraph forms. Thi brief message, "Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year"—a mere couple of lines—is not in itself much, but the signature makes all the difference, and in addition the postal authorities are saved an unnecessary amount of trouble. It is understood that the Christmas mail from ihe United Kingdom will arrive, in New Zealand shortlv.
