CLUB FOR EX-SOLDIERS.
NEW PLYMOUTH INSTITUTION' WELCOME FOR VISITING MEN. ; The many returned soldiers who are in New Plymouth during the holiday period will find in the U.S.A. Club a con-, veuient rendezvous for meeting frienda and a source of congenial companionship. With the general spirit of camaraderie which prevails among returned men. vim itors to the town will be sure of a hearty welcome. At the Club the two billiard tables will he available for those looking for a quiet game, and the comfort of players is assured, as one table is a new one, and the other has been completely renovated, For men from the eountry the Club provides facilities for a "brush-up," and the writing room is another convenience which is much sought after in the festive period. The "cosy" room makes a comfortable lounge, and morning and afternoon tea can be had in these pleasant surroundings. A .recent innovation at the Club has been the canteen, where soft drinks are on hand. The "official'., opening will be held to-night. On Christinas day, Sunday hours will be observed, and on race days the Club will be open from 0 a.m. till 11 a.m., and (1 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day. On New Year's Day the Club will be open in the evening only from 0 to 10 p.m. With the idea of developing the social life> of the institution, steps are being tatth to form an orchestra, aijd a meeting has been oalled for January 19 to discuss the question. Other proposals which the executive have in view are the holding of ladies' nights ence o month, and during the coming wintei Saturday night dances will be held. This side of the Club's work is important and the efforts being made generally or behalf of the returned men make' thi Club deserving of every support.
