TARANAKI DAILY NEWS. ' j STRATFORD AGENCY. 1 Advertisements and items of ntna tat publication should tit left at the office ol the local renresentatlve, W. 1. WlUon, nut Union Bank. December 22. A young man named Richard Stanley Stanford, a son of Mr, and Mrs. J. A. Stanford, of Huiroa, was found dead outside his parents' residence at an early hour this morning. The deceased was a returned soldier and was gassed in France, and it is presumed that on feeling unwell in the middle of the night he went outside for relief. He was missed when the household rose and was discovered a short distance away lying face downwards, apparently having been dead for a few hours. The body was brought to Stratford to-day and an inquest will be held on Thursday. The grocers of Stratford have decided not to take any action similar to that taken by the New Plymouth grocers with a view to obviating the necessity for observing the Thursday half-holiday this, week and next week, and their shopa will close as usual. Large numbers of country people have been visiting Stratford each day during the past week, and the retailers state that business is particularly good in all departments. The Stratford Borough Council decided' to-night to appoint Mr. Elliott Fleming, A.M.1.E.E., of Port Chalmers, as electrical engineer to the borough.

Christmas will soon bo here and the problem of selecting Christmas present-9 is already engaging the attention of most people. For the children, what more desirable presents can be found than the Christmas annuals? Included amongst H. J. Hopkins' large stock of annuals are the following, which are specially suitable for presentation pur- - poses: Chums, Boys' Own, Girls' Own, Australasian Boys and Girls, Empire Annual, Wonder Book, etc. Call and inspect at the shop Broadway, Stratford. Redeem the long-standing promise and have the photograph taken at McAllister's Studio. We are always ready, day or night; no delay; no waiting either in taking or finishing, at this studio.
