Terrific earthquake shocks destroyed many towns along the Argentine slopes of the Andes mountains. Over 450 bodies have been recovered so far, but the death roll is expected to be appallingly high. A hundred perished at Tresportcnas, and thirty at Costa de Araujo. . Not a house is left standing in La Valle and La Central. '
Particularly strong shocKs were felt again on Saturday, and the towns of San Martin and. Rivadavia and the city of Mendoea were badly shaken, but undamaged. This is the worst catastrophe since IW9.—Aus and N.Z. Cafte Assn.
