BRITAIN'S 'OPERATIONS.
TURNOVER OF 1000 MILLIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 10. The Treasury has issued a White Paper dealing with the accounts of Government departments and services in assisting the food supply and promoting the continuance of trade during the war.
The Ministry of Food, from its inception to Marcb 31, 1920, shows an estimated n.et profit of £912,312. The original instruction was that the Ministry should be self-supporting vithout making a profit and on a turnover approaching 10(10 millions, it was less than one-tenth of one per cent. The purchases of frozen meat to March 31, 1919, amounted to over 197 millions, on which the profit made was 4.45 per cent. The purchases of Australian zinc concentrates to March 31, 1919, were valued at £1,45,),198.
The Wheat Commission expended in three years to March 31, 1919, on purchases, freight and charges, £514,744,574. The net loss on the trading account Was £37,219,246, which represents approximately the cost of selling the loaf at ninepence.
