AN ELUSIVE INCIDENT.
f ■ : Readers, says The New Zealand Draper, will recall the widespread publication in every newspaper in the country of a story that u high legal luminary speaking before the full Bench of Judges in the Appeal Court in Wellington said what lie had heard on September 28. The story was to the effect "That n lady had gone into a shop asked . the price of a costume, and was told it was £3ti. She said it was monstrous, that she could get a similar costume at a far less price elsewhere. A senior employee came along and offered the costume at £l7. The lady 'threatened to tell the Board of Trade, with the result she got the costume for £9 " The same day that this story appeared in print the organising secretary inquired on behalf of the New Zealand Federation of Drapers and 'Clothiers, and asked for the name of : the shop whore this unusual incident | took place. It was not known in what | establishment that the alleged 'Drapery I Shop Incident' had happened! It was j not known for certain in what town th<
purchase took place, but it was thought to he Dunedin. The whole story had been casually heard from a male friend, but an endeavour would be made to ascertain (he name of the vendor' by that, day week. On Tuesday, October 15. the secretary called again only to j find that the information was not forthcoming. On Monday. October 11, he called a third time, but there was ngtli-i ing further to impart, as the informant had not yet been met with again. A letter signed by the president and a I member of the Wellington Advisory I Executive brought the reply that the j informant is unable to give the name of jthe draper referred to.
