GREEK THRONE.

QUESTION OF SMYRNA. \ MODIFICATION OF TREATY. | By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copytight. ' London, Dec. 9. M. Leygues states that Smyrna, which was ceded to Greece under the treaty, niust be returned to Turkey with safefuards for the protection of minorities. . complete agreement with Britain will be concluded on the basis of the modification of the Treaty of Sevres, the lines of which will not clash with Mussulman susceptibilities. If France is confined to the western Mediterranean her status will be considerably reduced, hence she is demanding the Syrian zone with Arexandretta, which will be one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean in thirty years. France will not remain in Galicia. The possibility of a modification of the Turkish treaty was indicated by the joint meeting of the financial and foreign affairs committee of the French Chamber at which M. Leygues is re- i ported to have declared in favor of such a modification. M. Leygues expressed the conviction that a complete Anglo-French agreement on the Turkish question would be shortly reached on the basis of modification of the treaty.

RETURN OF CONSTANTINE. Received Dec. 10, 7.50 p.m. Athens, Dee. 10. It is officially reported that Constantine returns to Greece next week. He will be escorted by every available warship.
