librarian appointed. At last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, on the recommendation of the Carnegie Committee, M.\ H. BeattJe, of Oam arti. was atopc.nied to t!io position of librarian and curator at the New Plymouth Library and Museum, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. J. BaiHie. Mr. Beattie wag at one time librarian at the Gore Library, and is at present engaged in research work at the Otago Museum, Dunedin. He has prepared several works on matters relating to New Zealand history. <
