TIMBER ON FIRE.
BLAZE AT SASH AND DOOR YARDS. LITTLE DAMAGE DOME An outbreak of Are occurred 11.25 last night in a stack of timber at the New Plymouth Sash and Door Company's yards, but the blaze was of short duration, and comparatively little damage was done. The glare of the flames from Devon Street at first seemed to indicate a fire of more serious proportions. The timber which caught alight was stacked on the back boundary of the yards at Molesworth Street, and the lire was first noticed by Mr. George Mart, a stoker at the gasworks, which adjoins the yards, his attention being drawn by the crackling of the timber. The alarm was given and the members of the central fire brigade and Captain F. C Bellringer were quickly on the scene, followed by members of the east and west end brigades. The outbreak was confined to the one stack, and the flames were quickly extinguished. A strong northerly wind was blowing, but the rainy conditions militated-against the quick spreading of the flames. The timber destroyed was some short lengths of totara, and about £lO should caver the damage.
