The death of Sir William Abney, a pioneer in photography, is announced in a cable from London. A Delhi cablegram reports that the Pioneer states that Mr. Ohurchi\l has been appointed Viceroy of India. \ A London cablegram reports that iLady de Ramsay, nee Spencer died from heart failure while reading to her blind husband. ; Mr. T. W. Honey, who for some years has been editor of the Sydney Moaning Herald, succeeds Dr. P. W. Ward a A editor of the Telegraph, Brisbane, an;l enters upon his new duties early mext year. Among the arrivals by overseas liners at Auckland yesterday were Dr. A\jerill (Anglican Bishop of Auckland), who! has returned from the Lambeth Conference, the Hon. George Fowlds, who is Jnack from America, and Dr. Tilyard, biolagist to the Cawthron Institute, Nelst/n.— Press Association. j Mr. Leonard J. Wild, M.A., fl.Sc., F.G.S., has been appointed assistant lecturer at the Christchureh Training College Mr. Wild was science master at Marlborough High School forj two years, science master at WanganuS Collego for two years, and lecturer in tihemistry at Canterbury Agricultural dollege for five years. He is at present! preparing a thesis for the D.Sc. degree.
Mr. ,T. B. Chappell, of Grange ikoad, Mount Eden, aged 77 years, is Head. The late Mr. Chappell was well khown in the Bay of Plenty, having arrived from Po'rtsmouth, England, nearly forty years ago. He was the youngest! son of the Rev. William Chappell, of Southampton, England. Two of his sons are the Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., Registrar of Auckland University College, ami Mr. W. Chappell, 8.A., headmaster of Aivtapu District High .School,
