The death of Sir William Abney, a pioneer in photography, is announced in a cable from London. He is at present! preparing a thesis for the D.Sc. degree.

Mr. ,T. B. Chappell, of Grange ikoad, Mount Eden, aged 77 years, is Head. The late Mr. Chappell was well khown in the Bay of Plenty, having arrived from Po'rtsmouth, England, nearly forty years ago. He was the youngest! son of the Rev. William Chappell, of Southampton, England. Two of his sons are the Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., Registrar of Auckland University College, ami Mr. W.
