FIRST MOVE AT HOME,
ACTION LEADS TO STRIKE,
By Telegraph.—Press isjn.—CowrUjlit, Received Dec. 2, 5.G p.m. ■ London, Dec. I. Carpenters and joiners in the Clyde shipyards struck against a reduction of the wage bonus by twelve shillings a week. This is the first attempt to reduce the wages of a considerable body of men. The employers state it is impossible to pay the current wages, as shipbuilding costs are becoming prohibitive. Carpenters and joiners employed in the Belfast shipyards, nvhom the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners recently expelled, accepted the 12s reduction. Several incidents occurred in London, unemployed seizing unoccupied municipal property in order to establish relief organisations. Their latest step was to occupy the town halls at Tottenham and Edmonton. They hoisted the Ted flag, and declare they will remain there until work is found for them.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. HOUSES SEIZED. UNEMPLOYED CAUSE SCENES. . FED BY THE PUBLIC. Received Dec. 2, 10.15 p.m. London, Dec. 2. Unemployed have seized the Camherwell Free Library and the Hackney Drill Hall. The public are supplying them with rations of bread, bully beef and coffee. They also seized twenty-one empty houses in Camberwell. Riotous scenes were witnessed at Dalston when unemployed attempted a similar seizure of empty houses, and (he police were compelled to draw their truncheons. The whole problem is serious. Some boards of guardians aire granting the men ten shillings weekly, the wives ditto, and each child 6s. —A\isN.Z. Cable Assn.
