THE CARTERTON TRAGEDY
TRIAL FOR MURDER OPENS. COMMITTED TO SUPREME OOUBT t By Talegraph.—Press Association. Carterton, Last Night. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, b* fore Mr. Free, S.M., Frederick Thompson was charged with the murder of Antony Rzoska. Mr. Macassey (Crown Prosecutor} appeared for the Crown, and the accused was defended by Mr. 4- T. Hogg. The evidence throughout was similar to that given at the inquest yesterday, additional evidence 'being given by William Henry Douglas (Wellington), William Henry Spicer, and Ernest Albert Spicer. Constable Miller gave additional evidence that accused had been drinking heavily and he was arrested for the first time on Norejnber 6 for drunkenuess. At the close of the evidence, Mr. Hogg, for the accused, entered a plea of not guilty, and reserved the defence." The accused was committed for trial at. the Wellington Supreme Court in February next.
